Sherry Brantley - Quarterly Spirit of Excellence, Morganfield

Sherry Brantley, RN, BSN, Medical/Surgical Nursing, and Quality Improvement Nurse, Case Management, has been with Methodist Health in Morganfield since May 1995. She received her Bachelor of Science in Nursing from Murray State University in 1993. She normally splits her time between Medical/ Surgical and Case Management. “I love the variety and different perspectives on nursing that each offers,” Brantley said. “I like working with patients, seeing them get better and being able to go home. The families depend on us to care for their family members. We know most of them from the community so we are not treating strangers.”

On the quality side, Brantley commented, “I enjoy doing nursing education on the quality requirements set by Joint Commission, monitoring the results of our quality data and how we can improve.” She was also very involved with the changeover to EPIC, a new electronic medical record system.

Brantley was the subject of an Employee Profile in April 2019 and she received the Spirit of Excellence award several years ago.

She lives in Waverly with her husband, James. They are the parents of three grown sons.

Comments by her nominator:

“Sherry excels at providing exceptional care to her patients on a daily basis. She ensures all needs of her patients — spiritual, physical and emotional — are met. Exceptional patient care is her main priority and it is apparent in the way she conducts herself while at work.”

“Sherry is compassionate, spending extra time at the bedside to ensure her patients continue to receive excellent care even after discharge. Continuity of care is important to Sherry and that is evident in her practice. Sherry uses her role as a nurse, as well as her role in Case Management, to listen to patients and tries to help them with any issues they may be facing.”

“Sherry is a wealth of knowledge on so many different nursing/medical/educational topics and is often the first person many look to for help when we need answers to a number of questions. Sherry is a voice of reason during frustrating times, a calming voice during hectic times and one of the few nurses that can give constructive criticism without making you angry. She is excellent at educating patients on new information as well as communicating with physicians and other staff members.”

“She has been great and put in countless hours during the transition to EPIC.”
