Employee Profile: Bernice Paul

Bernice Paul, Environmental Services Technician, Environmental Services (formerly known as Housekeeping), has been a Methodist Health employee since July 2017. She performs her duties to keep our Hospital clean and sanitized within the Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), the Well Baby Nursery, the Labor/Delivery area and on the Hospitalist wing.

When asked to name the favorite part of her job, she responded, “I really love seeing new life brought into the world and being around the new mothers. In years past, some women died due to lack of primary cleanliness and now I marvel at how far we’ve come. I take seriously my job to maintain a sanitary environment and break the chain of infection, which is so necessary, in particular, in the labor hall and for the babies in the NICU who are already immune compromised.”

Paul recently completed a 24-hour course to become a certified EVS Technician and was awarded a mentor badge from the department.

She and her husband, James, who live in Sebree, have had strong ties to Methodist Health for many years. Her three children were born here and so were her husband’s three children. Her 15 grandchildren and two of five great-grandchildren came into the world at Methodist Health as well. “It ‘s wonderful to see Drs. O’Nan and Rashidian still here and delivering babies,” she added.

“Methodist Health is an institution that has been a big part of my life for decades before working here. I’m so glad to be a part of it!”
