Methodist Health, Deaconess Health System affiliation finalized

Methodist Health, Deaconess Health System affiliation finalized

The affiliation agreement between Methodist Health and Deaconess Health System is now final. This affiliation will bring about a shared focus on enhancing local care in western Kentucky by improving access to high quality services, standardizing care protocols, integrating electronic medical records, and improving quality and efficiencies throughout Methodist Health.

Some of the key points of this affiliation include:

  • Deaconess Health System taking a minority ownership in Methodist Health, at 33.3%.
  • Clinical expertise and alignment that will enable Methodist Health to expand local services—both in Henderson and Union Counties. The affiliation, which will improve access to physicians and expand other local services, will result in better, more accessible care close to home.
  • The implementation of Epic, the nation’s most widely-used EMR, providing local patients with one health record, accessible with all their physicians and providers. This will be at a substantial cost savings than if Methodist Health implemented Epic independently.
  • Deaconess making an investment in renovating the emergency department at Methodist Health Union County, a much needed upgrade.
  • Deaconess entering into a new lease arrangement with Methodist Health. Deaconess Clinic Henderson offices will be leasing space in what is currently shell space on the first floor of the south tower. Deaconess will invest in upgrades to this space to bring our Deaconess Clinic Henderson physicians into one location. If patients need lab, radiology and other services, they can be conveniently accessed at Methodist Health.
  • The new affiliation’s legal entity name will be Methodist Health, Inc.; however, the Methodist Health logo and branding will remain unchanged, but will include a new tag line, “A Deaconess Network Affiliate.”

Leadership of both Methodist Health and Deaconess are committed to providing these improvements to ensure patients will have access to the quality health care they need in western Kentucky.

“Methodist Health has a long history of caring for people here in western Kentucky. Because of this affiliation, that tradition will continue and strengthen,” said Benny Nolen, President and CEO, Methodist Health. “We know clinical alignment will advance our efforts to provide quality, compassionate care to the communities we serve. This affiliation will also strengthen the ability of our hospitals in both Henderson and Union Counties to meet the needs of patients now and in the future.”

“We look forward to working closely with Methodist Health physicians, leaders and staff to make our affiliation beneficial to both organizations’ patients and employees,” said Shawn McCoy, CEO of Deaconess Health System. “On behalf of Deaconess, we welcome Methodist Health as a new affiliate, and look forward to working together to improve the health of the people in western Kentucky.”
