SUCCESS STORY: Jerry Manning

Following knee revision surgery and a three-day stay at a local hospital, Jerry Manning spent seven days as a patient on the Swing Bed Unit at Methodist Health in Morganfield, KY in September 2017. “I am so glad a program like this was there help me in my recovery close to home,” he said.

Manning, 84, is a retired pastor, banker and former member of the Methodist Health Union County’s Advisory Board, so he was aware of the services available on the Swing Bed Unit but had never had to experience them first-hand. “I couldn’t have asked for better care,” he noted.

“Years ago, I was a volunteer Chaplain here,” he recalled. “I have been affiliated in one way or other with this Hospital for a long time and have known about the Swing Bed Unit and think it is a marvelous thing for this community. When someone like me is in recovery from a surgery or an illness but isn’t ready to return to their home, this is the perfect place for them to get short-term skilled nursing care.”

“The staff doted over me, asking me if I wanted or needed something during the time I wasn’t in physical therapy two to three times a day. After I went home, I came back for outpatient therapy and I’m still doing a little every now and then."

“Dr. Dennis Beck, who was my orthopaedic surgeon at Orthopaedic Associates, told me the therapy services department here is second to none and I agree. It has been a year since I was a patient there and I’ve since recommended the Swing Bed Unit and the physical therapy staff to several others.”
