New school vaccine requirements take effect July 1

Effective July 1, 2018, the Kentucky Department for Public Health will require all school-aged children to have two new vaccines. Methodist Health is here to help inform you of these changes as we work together to keep our communities healthy.

Hepatitis A Vaccine
All Kentucky students from kindergarten through 12th grade will be required to receive a two-dose series of the Hepatitis A vaccine (HepA).

Meningitis Vaccine
All Kentucky students age 16 or older are required to have two doses of the meningitis vaccine (quadrivalent meningococcal vaccine), which means some children may require a booster.

These vaccines help protect children from two potentially life-threatening diseases. Your pediatrician can review your child’s immunization records with you to determine what vaccines or boosters he or she may need. In addition, children who are homeschooled must submit a current immunization certificate to participate in any public or private school activities.
