Mary Ann Sneed - MHUC Quarterly Spirit of Excellence

Mary Ann Sneed - MHUC Quarterly Spirit of Excellence

Mary Ann Sneed, Dietary Cook/Aide, Food and Nutrition Services, began her tenure at Methodist Health Union County in January 2016.

Originally hailing from Webster County, she has lived in Morganfield for the past five years. She has a son and a two-year-old granddaughter, Sophia, who she says, “is the air that I breathe.”

The favorite part of her job is being able to help people out in some way. “I like being of service to others, to do something that can make their day a little easier,” she says. “I do love to cook, but I never had been paid for it before,” she continued. Earlier in her life, Sneed worked as a teacher in an elementary school.

Her shift begins at 5 a.m. and ends at 3:30 p.m. Sneed notes she didn’t used to be a morning person but says, “I am now!” In addition to cooking food, her duties involve waiting on customers, making up patient food trays, assisting with clean up and checking on needed supplies. She is quick to commend her coworkers and her supervisor, Shanna Thomas. “They’re all wonderful; we’re like a little family.”

Sneed shared her reaction to being named the Quarterly Employee of Excellence, saying, “I was very surprised and humbled. It was nice to know that someone has noticed what we do back here.”

COMMENTS BY HER NOMINATOR:
“Mary Ann always has a great outlook on the day. Service is her job and she exceeds that very much. You always get your food with a smile. She is always willing to stop and get you something if you do not see it available. In today’s society, when the service job market has increased, it is a pleasant experience to be able to be served by someone that will look you in the eye and give you a smile.”
