Melinda Raley, Spirit of Excellence, December 2017

Melinda Raley, Food Service Associate I in Food and Nutrition Services, began her career with Methodist Health on March 26, 2007. Her duties include assembling food trays and putting them on a cart ready for delivery to patients. “I look at what they’ve ordered and make sure they get what they want,” she explained. Raley also helps out in the dish room or wherever she is needed or scheduled and delivers supplies (coffee cups, lids, straws, etc.) to areas throughout the Hospital.

The favorite part of her job is trying to make sure everyone, including the patients and her co-workers get what they need. “We’re like a big, extended family here,” she added. “We all pull together to help each other out.”

Raley was born in Kentucky but grew up in Evansville, IN, where she graduated from Central High School. Before her employment at Methodist Health, she worked at several restaurants and in a day care center. She moved to Henderson eight years ago. Her usual hours are from 5:45 a.m. to 6:15 p.m. although she occasionally works shorter shifts. In her free time, she enjoys taking walks with her husband, Paul.

“I was pleasantly surprised when I received the Spirit of Excellence award,” she said. “I thought something was going to happen when we were all called to gather for a meeting and Administration arrived. When they said my name, I said, ‘Hey, that’s me!’ I wasn’t expecting it at all, but I am grateful.”

“Melinda goes above and beyond in the kitchen. She never has to be asked to pitch in where needed. On truck day, she helps put up stock and still keeps her job caught up and done well. She is very outgoing in the halls when delivering to the floors and greets everyone she meets with an overwhelming hello and sometimes a song! I admire her spirit and attitude and couldn’t ask for a better employee. Even when she is blue, she shines bright in all she does.”

“She is very compassionate with other team members and any problems they may be having and is able to talk to them and give them support with an ability to put a smile on their face even in the worst of times. I have seen her go up on the floor and visit her neighbors when they are here as patients and help them in any way she can and buy gifts for people when she is struggling herself.”

“Communication is one of Melinda’s strengths. She does a great job communicating with the doctors in the lounges about their needs and wants as far as food and always seems to get them what they want even if we are short stafed.”
