Katherine “Katie” Arnold, RN, BSN, Medical/Surgical Nursing,
began her career with Methodist Hospital in Morganfield on May 17, 2010
as a Nurse Extern. She received her RN license in 2011, became a Certified
Medical/Surgical nurse in 2013 and went on to earn her BSN degree in December 2014.
A native of Union County, she is proud to serve the community she lives
and works in. The favorite part of her job is taking care of her patients,
many of whom she has known for years. “I really like working at
our small Hospital,” she said. “I know everyone by name and
wouldn’t want to work anywhere else.”
She and her husband, Luke, are the parents of a four-year-old daughter
and two-year-old son, with another on the way in August. Despite having
a “full plate” at home, she juggles her responsibilities well.
Noting she has always wanted to be a nurse since age five, Arnold takes
care of patients of all ages and with a variety of medical conditions.
“My youngest patient has been nine months; the oldest was 103,”
she said. “Our 25-bed Hospital can be populated with patients needing
acute care or observation to those on the Swing Bed unit. It’s especially
nice to see patients recover and be able to return home after a stay there.”
Besides her regular duties, Arnold has taken a leadership role in initiating
the Project RED (Re-Engineering Discharge) program at the Morganfield
facility, designed to help educate patients with pneumonia, congestive
heart failure and others at high risk in an effort to reduce readmissions.

She goes out of her way to make sure the needs of her patients are met.
She spends extra time going over new medications and/or diagnosis with
her patients. She slows down no matter how busy she is and provides extra
time to comfort patients and/or their family members when they express
needs or concerns. She appears positive even when faced with negativity,
is always encouraging and explains things in a positive light. She attempts
to keep all new information and education for the patient at a level they
can easily understand.
