Ashley Clements, Phlebotomist, Laboratory, began her career with Methodist
Hospital on April 11, 2016, while she was in the process of earning an
Associate’s Degree from Henderson Community College. “I was
doing my clinicals at the Hospital as part of the phlebotomy portion of
the program when I found out there was an opening and applied,”
she said. She completed the Medical Assistant program in May 2017.
Her duties as a Phlebotomist include drawing blood for patients throughout
the Hospital as well as for outpatients in the Lab. She also goes to Red
Banks Nursing Home to draw blood and collect specimens and processes orders
that come in from the medical clinics in Dixon and Sebree.
The favorite part of her job is doing her bestto make people feel comfortable
while she is drawing their blood. “I try to do it so they don’t
have pain or experience anxiety,” she explained.
Clements is considering continuing her education in the future to become
a Respiratory Therapist.
Being named Spirit of Excellence, “is a great way to start out the
new year! This is a wonderful place to work. I really appreciate the award,”
COMMENTS FROM HER NOMINATOR
“Ashley defines a Spirit of Excellence employee in her daily routine.
She goes out of her way to make a patient feel comfortable. She often
works by herself on second shift. Always willing to help her coworkers,
she not only draws blood but puts in patient orders from outsourcing labs
and collects other body fluid specimens as well.”
“She goes out of her way to get a patient a blanket or let nurses
know that a patient needs help. She stays over to help get the timed sticks
caught up so the third shift Phlebotomist will not be left too far behind
when starting their shift.”
“Ashley is a blessing to this lab and also to this Hospital. She
communicates exceptionally well with others in her department as well
as ED, Telemetry, Medical/Surgical and outsourcing offices.”
